Do you really need a Seven-Bowl Chakra Set? Many books, websites, and sound healing courses describe the chakras and their associated qualities, colors, seed syllables (chanted to activate each chakra), notes, and frequencies. But here’s what most don’t mention: these associations can vary depending on cultural traditions, tuning systems, and which sound healing practitioners you follow.
Over 50% of the world links the seven main chakras with specific musical notes (C, D, E, F, G, A, B) and colors (red, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, cobalt blue, and violet-white). However, not all cultures use the same musical scale. When the chakras were first discussed in Sanskrit, they weren’t aligned with the Western scale we use today.
And here’s an important fact: if you’re using singing bowls tuned to 432 Hz, but they’re marketed as the chakra notes C, D, E, F, G, A, B, those pitches are completely different from bowls tuned to 440 Hz. In other words, the actual notes produced won’t match the chakra notes many marketers claim.
Some sound healing experts believe that because each of us has unique resonant frequencies, our chakra frequencies may also be unique. I tell my students that you don’t need a seven- or eight-bowl chakra set to perform a Chakra Balancing Meditation. These guidelines aren’t set in stone—they’re tools, not rules.
What truly matters is the sound of the monaural beats the bowls produce when played skillfully. These beats entrain the brain into a trance-like, meditative state, helping participants visualize the chakras as spinning, colored wheels of energy. This state allows us to release negative emotions, outdated beliefs, past traumas, and energies that no longer serve us—while welcoming in positive, loving energy.
